What is the 482 visa, and do you need to sponsor one?

Short answer is yes, you do need to act as a sponsor for a 482 visa candidate.

The Subclass 482 Skills in Demand visa lets you sponsor an overseas worker to fill a role where you can't find a suitably skilled Australian.

Before your candidate can work for you, there are three separate steps that need to be completed:

1

Standard Business Sponsorship (SBS): approval to sponsor overseas workers.

2

Nomination: approval of the specific role in your business including salary level, genuine position in the business, and evidence that you've genuinely tried to recruit locally first (unless exempt)

3

Visa Application: approval of the visa based on skills, English language, health and character.

Common questions

Employers we connect with frequently ask about...

Not always. Some roles are exempt from labour market testing. Where it does apply, advertising is generally required for a minimum of four weeks across at least two advertisements, within the four months before you nominate.
We can advise on whether a request for review is viable, or whether a fresh application with stronger evidence is the better approach.
Government charges include the SBS and nomination fees plus the Skilling Australians Fund (SAF) levy, which varies by business size and sponsorship length. Our adviser fee is quoted when you enquire and will depend on the scope of the service required and complexity of the application. Contact us and we'll give you a clear picture upfront.
Processing times vary by stream and by how complete the evidence is at each stage - from a few days to several months at peak periods. We submit complete, accurate applications to minimise delays or requests for further information.
Yes. If your SBS is current and you just need a nomination and visa application managed, we can manage only the applications that are required.
